Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a gentle, holistic and therapeutic cross fibre myofascial release technique.

Each treatment involves a series of cross fibre moves performed through clothing.

Bowen Therapy was developed by an Australian Thomas Ambrose Bowen in the early 1950s in Geelong, Victoria.

The goal of Bowen therapy is to encourage the body to heal itself by releasing tension and restoring balance

The moves work directly on the fascia which is a connective tissue surrounding, binding together, anchoring and supporting tendons, muscles, ligaments, bones, the circulatory system, all organs, and even the nervous system.

The main constituents of fascia are found in every cell, so the holistic and multi system effects of Bowen are extensive and  beyond limitation.

One move can affect multiple systems within the body and reach tissues quite a distance from the original move.  The fact that fascia connects every tissue in the body, enables a Bowen treatment to be so extensively effective.

Bowen moves can release trigger points, improve lymphatic drainage, relieve pain and improve range of movement within muscles and promote relaxation.  All of these effects can aid in healing many aspects of a persons ill health.

Bowen Therapy triggers the bodies own innate healing system to reactivate and work towards health.

Bowen allows the body to prioritise what healing needs to take place.  This means each individuals body balances its own system according to its own requirements.

Together the therapist and client work synergistically towards improved health and well being for the client.

Clients have reported leaving a treatment feeling ‘freer’  and lighter in their step.

Some have said a treatment has lifted their spirit, helped them refocus on wellness or reminded them to step back and take time to breathe.

Some clients notice only the feeling of walking taller or in alignment.

But when your soul screams with joy because the body it inhabits is working harmoniously, your mind is quietened and your sense of self is restored – you know that Bowen truly is holistic.

This ability for your body to work closer to its optimum level, then enables your soul to open to the possibility of finding its way back to itself.
