In the process of teaching Reiki 1, I realised that my technique varies from that of traditional teachers.
My long history in alternative therapies, my background in Nursing and my experiences with clients over a period of 30 years, has led me to intuitively adjust my approach to suit those that present to me.
At some point in our life, we all experience changes which make us question our direction, the things that are important to us and where our life is heading. This can come in the form of grief, trauma, upheaval or injury. It can be caused by changing schools, moving house, losing grandparents or parents. It comes from divorce, your own or that of others. Your way of life you have grown to be comfortable in, changes.
All these things can force our inner compass out of balance leading us to require recalibration. It can be emotional and often difficult to process. It changes us at our core.
Many of my clients are victims of trauma of some kind.
There is a great need for a safe space to be created as this can help people relax into a healing session so that they can gain the benefits of a calm nervous system.
I believe that a healing session should begin with a discussion.
Gaining insight through a range of questions and encouraging open dialogue about how the session will proceed assists in building trust and provides valuable information about a clients fears or hesitations.
Whether the client prefers the treatment to start on their back or front can be important for some.
Unfortunately, today many people who seek the relaxation and healing that comes from a healing session, arrive with trauma symptoms or with the experience of trauma in their history.
For many of those people, going into a new therapy with little to no knowledge of the techniques used and possibly no back history with the practitioner, trust is difficult to build.
For some people, lying face down, able to protect the front of their body gives them time to understand the process before allowing people into the personal space of the front of their body. Others may feel more comfortable lying face up first so they can see where you are and build trust in the process.
For some, the idea of the first position being someone covering their eyes….adds a whole other level of stress to the experience.
For this reason, I use an intuitive approach that is guided by the clients needs and feeling of safety.
In this era of trauma informed healing, it is essential to be aware of the emotions that people can present to you with.
Reiki & Chi Activation Energetic healing should provide a gentle, non-invasive healing technique that leaves the client feeling relaxed, safe and nurtured.
Being conscious of body language and hesitancies in people when they present, help you treat people with empathy and compassion.
The simple rule is… be aware, be kind and allow flexibility in your treatment and the order in which you perform your hand positions.
I believe in always following your intuition.
